LAST SONG CONTEST

My kids and my niece love Miley Cirus since is is everywhere. They were so excited to get to see the Blu-ray version of Last Song. You may want to bring some hankies for your tears..some from sadness and some for laughter. This movie is not the best movie in the world but is was cute and my daughter really liked it. Now my niece is 13 years old and really understood the teen relationship in the movie where my daughter didn’t have a clue except she knew when they were going to kiss and she would giggle. I think is a good movie for a rainy night when you have nothing else to do!

Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks (Dear John, The Notebook), The Last Song follows Ronnie (Cyrus) and her estranged father as he tries to restore the loving relationship they once had. JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH REVIEW

While The Nightmare Before Christmas was already considered too dark and unconventional by some audiences, James and the Giant Peach reaches further levels of obscurity and sunlessness, conditions that are somewhat redeemed by cutting-edge visuals. With Tim Burton once again providing a watchful eye as producer, the film continues Nightmare’s use of his trademark visual style, which grafts quite well onto complex stop-motion animation. But some of Burton’s live-action films are too skewed for his adult audiences, so this children’s movie, directed by Henry Selick as an interpretation of Burton’s mind, will be lost on them, so far flung are the elements of Roald Dahl’s book and their twisted onscreen realization. A telling sign is that it’s rated PG rather than G. Nothing really shocking or gruesome happens, but the world depicted is ever so slightly grotesque, such that the characters never achieve the familiarity that makes them marketable to children as toys. Not that merchandising should necessarily be its goal, but it should at least aim for a spot in children’s memories outside of trippy fragments that come to them in dreams. The plot of Dahl’s fairy tale seems to result from throwing together random events and objects, almost a Mad Libs approach to narrative. There’s no doubt the visions of Dahl, Selick, and Burton come together with grand visual style and exhausting technical achievement, but what’s missing is the coherence that might make them magical. ~ Derek A.

Our kids didn’t know what to think when they received this movie to review. After watching it the first time it was a hit with my kids. It reminds me of Corraline…kind of dark, erie, childish yet fun! We had a great movie night with the kids and they really enjoyed watching the peach grow so large. This is a great movie to put on your Holiday gift giving list since it is so affordable. The Blu-ray edition is the best the detail in the picture quality is phenoinal.

Caillou is always great..I can watch several episode of this show and never get sick of it.

StarStruck Review Extended Edition (DISNEY)

A musical romance featuring pop stars, paparazzi, and the pains that come with fame.

Jessica Olson and her older sister Sara are heading to Los Angeles from Kalamazoo, Michigan on a family trip to visit their Grandma. Sara is obsessed with pop star Christopher Wilde and hopes to track him down while in California. Jessica could care less about the stuck up star and would rather go sightseeing. When the Olson’s arrive in L.A., Sara takes Jessica on a hunt to find Christopher. A chance meeting with the star sets off a series of adventures set against the backdrop of Hollywood during which Jessica begins to drop her preconceptions about Christopher as he reveals his true self, and the duo start to fall for each other.

Watching this movie with Nevaeh, I found that it was too grown up for her which she is only 5 years old. So after the first 5 mins. she left and went to play with her brother. The movie is perfect for teens and we all can relate to teenage crushes. I enjoyed the movie but, thought it had a really predictable ending. I recommend renting it..not buying it.

When in Rome

WHEN IN ROME

STARRING: Kristen Bell, Josh Duhamel, Angelica Huston, Will Arnett, Jon Heder, Dax Shepard, Alexis Dziena, Kat Micucci and Danny DeVito

WRITTEN BY: David Diamond and David Weissman

DIRECTED BY: Mark Stephen Johnson

Rated: PG – 13
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: 29 January 2010
Review Date: 21 March 2010

Kristen Bell is adorable and Josh Duhamel is a blast and their chemistry together was entertaining; but I wish I’d seen it in a different film. When in Rome is just one more romantic comedy to give me less hope for this genre that’s tragically desperate for some creative new ideas.

Kristen Bell is our character of highest interest in the film as Beth. She is a career woman with no time for a man in her life, as a busy art curator for a big museum in New York.

She manages to sneak away for a brief moment to Rome however, for her sister’s wedding. At this wedding, she meets the charming man, whom she isn’t aware, is no doubt the one of her dreams. Duhamel plays the leading man, Nick.

Despite Nick’s more than obvious immediate interest in Beth, she is oblivious to this and finds herself drunk and complaining that no-one will ever love her. She ends up at a majestic touristy water fountain in the streets of Rome, where she removes five coins from its watery temple. The second she does this, five guys immediately fall in love with her. Well four for sure, the other may have already been headed down that road on his own and besides – he threw a poker chip into the fountain rather than a coin, so does this really count? The fifth guy is of course, Nick.

When Beth goes back home to New York, she is soon stalked by all five men, to include Nick, although he does so in a more subtle and somewhat charming fashion. The other four guys yearning for her attention are played by Danny DeVito, Dax Shepard, Jon Heder and Will Arnett.

DeVito plays a sweet famous sausage king; Shepard is a hilarious male model who is absolutely full of himself; Heder is a screw-ball magician who will bother you but make you grin; and Arnett plays a loony Italian artist. All of them grovel over her and naturally, she only has eyes for Nick, but of course can’t let him onto that, because -well, the movie would be over, I guess.

I’m not sure why the film needed to have these four psychos following Beth’s every move, but on the other hand what would have taken their place? Maybe they added to the film in some obscure way. I do get the feeling that they all had more depth to them than our two main characters, and that is just as ridiculous as the four of them in general. - Craig Whittle

Product Description

An ambitious young New Yorker (Kristen Bell), disillusioned with romance, takes a whirlwind trip to Rome where she defiantly plucks magic coins from a fountain of love, inexplicably igniting the passion of those who threw them in: a sausage magnate (Danny DeVito), a street magician (John Heder), an adoring painter (Will Arnet) and a self-admiring model (Dax Shepard). But when a charming reporter (Josh Duhamel) pursues her with equal zest, how will she know if his love is the real thing?

Bonus includes deleted scenes, bloopers, music videos and more. And as a special incentive to
those who purchase the film on Blu-ray Disc, the studio has included an entertainingly funny
alternate opening and ending as well as four extra bonus features that provide viewers with
more in-depth context to the funny cast and crew who brought this film to life.

James Cameron’s Avatar Movie Review Blu Ray

TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX HOME ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES AVATAR BLU-RAY DISC AND DVD GLOBAL RELEASE DATES

Avatar is a magical epic of cinematography. It is a story of love, politcal greed and life changing decisions. Never before have I seen computer animation look so real and believable. Avatar takes sci-fi/fantasy movies to an entirely new level much like Star Wars did back in the late 70′s. The story revolves around science and human kind’s ability to manipulate dna to create an alien race that are controlled by human intelligence. This movie has the ability to entertain people of all ages. If you have yet to experience this gem of a movie, you owe it to yourself to give it a watch. I recommend it with a very enthusiastic two thumbs up!

Found this on Amazon…from MYD Movie Fan! Just an FYI!
***THINGS YOU MUST KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY***

1. A special edition likely including 20-40 minutes of additional footage is already being leaked to media for release later THIS YEAR!
2. No special features. If you are a fan, of all the discs in your collection this is the one you really want the extra stuff. It really should be amazing!
3. No 3D presentation. New technology in TVs is out this year and should enhance the home 3D experience. I don’t usually care about 3D at home but things are changing. Be ready!
4. There is also news that the movie itself will be re-released shortly with the 20-40 minutes of additional content I mentioned above. Why buy the Blu if you can see it with additional content and in the best possible 3D at theaters— then buy the special edition just a few months later?

I have to echo the comments of a previous reviewer. The studios are becoming so brazen. They released this edition and tried to explain the poor accoutrements by saying “they wanted to save all the space on the disc for the best possible presentation”. Are you kidding me? Bust out the extra discs already! Offering this bare bones BR right before re-releasing the movie with additional footage was also a classless act that spits in consumer’s faces. Just rent the movie or see the enhanced version in theaters. It will tide you over until the Special Edition comes out.

Lastly, there are plenty of people adding comments that you shouldn’t wait for 3D because the home experience with 3D is lack luster or most people don’t have the new 3D TVs. That’s partly true, however…
IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT 3D! The lack of additional storyline, missing special features and blatent disregard for consumers (in an economic downturn) are what make this a bad deal. There is new home theater technology out this year that should enhance the home 3D experience. Your home theater will catch up. People who are excited about this movie should be standing together against a poor release offering, especially when there are terrific alternatives to hold us over.

Wait a few months and get a much superior release for similar money.

The Great Mouse Detective DVD review!

I can hardly believe that I went over 20 years without seeing this film. Based upon Eve Titus’s Basil of Baker Street (Basil of Baker Street ): Basil of Baker Street and its sequels, it tells the story of intrigue and peril in a hidden Victorian-era society of mice, complete with its own beloved queen (about, like the humans’ Victoria, to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee), its craftsmen and army (Dr. David Q. Dawson, like John Watson, is recently out of service in Afghanistan), and, like all societies, its crime, criminals, and dedicated battlers for justice, notably the great Basil, who lives in a mousehole neatly tucked into the foundations of 221B Baker Street. When toymaker Hiram Flaversham–a genius with objects mechanical–is kidnapped from his home, his motherless daughter Olivia seeks out Basil in hopes of getting help in finding him. Basil at first thinks such a task beneath him, but when he realizes that the crime was committed on orders of his nemesis, Prof. Ratigan, he plunges into the case with enthusiasm, accompanied by Dawson and (quite against his preferences) Olivia, plus Toby, the sniffing hound who often works for Holmes.

Basil isn’t the most sympathetic of heroes–he seems to have most of his human model’s weaknesses (arrogance, vanity, and an occasional tendency to self-pity not the least) and few of his virtues (except for courage). But he’s also brilliant, and with Dawson’s stolid backing he follows the clues to an exciting climax that finds him pursuing Ratigan through the gears and escapements of the Big Ben clock and very nearly re-enacting (or perhaps more accurately anticipating) Holmes’s plunge off the Reichenbach Falls. Ratigan himself is a smooth yet scary villain, like so many of Disney’s bad guys, and is wonderfully voiced by horrormeister Vincent Price. (His henchbat, Fidget, may be even scarier, especially when he first bursts through the Flavershams’ window.) He also stoutly denies that he’s a rat, even though he obviously is. Kids may well want to find out more about Arthur Conan Doyle’s tales after watching this movie, and adults familiar with them will enjoy picking up on the similarities between the two.  CJ

From the creators of The Princess and the Frog and The Little Mermaid comes the story of a clever little hero on a great big adventure. Join the Sherlock Holmes of Mousedom on a heroic journey unraveling clues through London. If you like Sherlock Holmes, you’ll love The Great Mouse Detective. When the diabolical Professor Ratigan kidnaps the city’s master toymaker, the brilliant Basil of Baker Street and his trusted sidekick Dawson set off to track down Basil’s lifelong nemesis. Little do they know that the evil rat’s trail leads all the way to The Queen at Buckingham Palace! Get on the case with Basil, the master of disguise, as he tries to elude the ultimate rattrap and foil the perfect crime. Now digitally remastered, fully restored and complete with exclusive bonus features, The Great Mouse Detective is better than ever in the Mystery In The Mist Edition!

Bonus Features Include: All-New Digital Restoration, New So You Think You Can Sleuth Game, The Making Of The Great Mouse Detective, The World’s Greatest Criminal Mind Sing-Along Song, Dylan & Cole Sprouse: Blu-ray Is Suite!, Learn How To Take Your Favorite Movies On The Go.

Secrets of the Mountain Sneak Peak

Secrets of the Mountain” is a new family movie airing tomorrow night on NBC, brought to you by Walmart and P&G. All the the hype of this movie is about how families can watch it together. Yep, a family movie..something safe and exciting for our kids to watch.
The movie stars Paige Turco as Dana James, a single Mom who feels her kids are pulling away from her and each other. When she gets a letter from an attorney offering to buy a mountain property she inherited, she rallies the kids to take the road trip with her to see what shape the house is in. When they arrive, they find surprises around every corner. Soon, the whole James family is caught up in an ancient secret, a treasure hunt, and a treacherous journey that will teach them to work with each other instead of against each other. It kind of reminds me of “National Treasure” but with kids. Other stars include Barry Bostwick and Shawn Christian.

Plot synopsis:
Somewhere between the demands of her career, her ex’s wedding and her kids’ busy schedules, Dana James is noticing her tight-knit family starting to unravel.  An unexpected offer to purchase her family’s mountain property sets up a weekend road trip, which she hopes will bring her family back together.  But when they arrive, they quickly learn that the mountain is much more than it seems.  An ancient secret and a treacherous quest will test the family like never before.  It’s an edge-of the-seat thriller that reminds us that when times are tough, families don’t run away from problems – they run back to each other.

“Secrets of the Mountain” airs on NBC tomorrow, April 16th, at 8pm EST, 7pm CT. The “Secrets of the Mountain” trailer is on YouTube.  You’ll be able to buy the DVD with a bonus CD soundtrack on the 17th, or preorder it from walmart.com here.

We have been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD and we were so excited to receive it and finally watch it. Nevaeh and Korbyn have been running around the house singing the songs from the DVD. Our family really enjoyed this movie and we have even decided to have a little kids party with this movie as the feature. I love the graphics on the Blu-ray and the character’s look so real! An adorable movie for your family!  Here is a quick synopsis about the movie…if you are unsure…buy it.

Alvin, Simon and Theodore end up in the care of Dave Seville’s twenty-something nephew Toby. The boys must put aside music super stardom to return to school, and are tasked with saving the school’s music program by winning the prize money in a battle of the bands. But the Chipmunks unexpectedly meet their match in three singing chipmunks known as The Chipettes. Though the Chipmunks are confident they have the songwriting skills to steamroll the competition, a newly formed singing trio dubbed the Chippettes promises to give them some stiff competition on-stage. Brittany, Eleanor, and Jeanette are indeed the real deal, and the closer the competition gets, the more Alvin, Simon, and Theodore realize that in order to win, they’ll have to give it everything they’ve got. This is a great movie. If you liked the first one you will like this one. Your kids will love it and thats what the movie is for.
